Message from the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire
Â
Today, on VE Day, we pause to remember a moment of profound significance in our national story — the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Â
For the people of Nottinghamshire, as for communities across the country, it was a day marked by relief, reflection and remembrance, but only a pause for celebration as some still had family, friends and comrades continuing the fight in the Far East.
We honour the extraordinary courage, sacrifice and service of those who fought for our freedom, those on the home front in the medical and emergency services, farming, mining, industry and the community, and the Commonwealth countries and allies.
We give thanks to a generation who endured so much for our freedom today.
I know how deeply the values of duty, resilience, and community continue to shape Nottinghamshire.
On this day we remember the past with gratitude and look to the future with hope.
