Thursday 8 May 2025 will be a day of remembrance and community spirit as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
Join the Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Sue Paterson, in raising the VE Day 80th Anniversary Flag at 9am on Thursday 8 May in Beeston Square.

Celebrate at home with a traditional fish, chips, and mushy peas lunch or by lighting a lamp to reflect on the sacrifices of those that fought for our freedom.

Warren Hill Action Group (WAG) is running a VE day themed family fun day for local residents, there will be activities to take part in and a jumble sale to raise money future free events.

Gedling Borough Council VE 80 Flag Raising Ceremony
Gedling Borough Council is holding at commemorative flag raising to mark VE Day.
Location: Civic Centre, Arnot Hill Park, Arnold, Nottingham, NG5 6LU. Date 08.05.25. Time: 10:00am.
Guests are asked to gather at the roundabout by 9.55am for a 10.00am start at the Civic Centre roundabout in front of the main entrance to the Civic Centre.

The local community in Newstead are coming together to hold a community picnic in the park in celebration of VE Day 80 years ago and their village’s 150th birthday.

Community Afternoon Tea Party
The Netherfield Forum is hosting a community afternoon tea party event to celebrate VE day. Location: St Georges Centre, 91 Victoria Rd, Netherfield, Nottingham NG4 2NN. Date: Thursday 8th May. Time 2pm – 4pm. Est Attendance 100.
A brilliant afternoon is planned with lots of wonderful singing, live music and delicious sandwiches and cakes. Booking is essential and a £2.00 booking fee is required. This will be donated to the Royal British Legion. Photos will be taken of the event and posted on the Netherfield Forum website. This event has been funded in part by councillors and Cllr Strong is steering the event.

Salute to the 40’s VE 80 celebration Mapperley Plains Social Club
The Mapperley Plains Social Club (Formerly Gedling Miners Welfare) is holding a Salute to the 40’s VE 80 celebration event. Location: Mapperley Plains Recreational & Social Club, Plains Road, Nottingham. NG3 5RH. Date: Saturday 10th May. Time: 1pm – 5pm. The event includes: Tabletop Stalls, Sweetheart of the Forces Vintage Singer Melody Flyte, SNARC Radio Club with Morse Code, Wartime Singer Bingo, Carlton TA Display, Singalong War Songs, Charity Cakes and Stall for SSFFA and Full Bar. Celebration in the Park – Saturday 3 May, 10am to 2pm at Yeoman Hill ParkMansfield District Council invites the whole community to come together for a free, fun-filled day in the park. Expect live music from local artists, face painting, fantastic entertainment, delicious food vans and much more. Bring the family, bring a picnic, and bring your best singing voice – it’s a day not to be missed!
