HRH The Duke of Gloucester visits Nottinghamshire

12 Mar 2025

Nottinghamshire welcomed HRH The Duke of Gloucester on 12 March 2025.

HRH was the guest of honour at the unveiling of a special Plaque to honour the memory of those from the Commonwealth who fought alongside Britain and sacrificed their lives in the cause of freedom in two World War Wars and whose descendants are British Citizens and residents in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

He was joined at the ceremony by a host of special guests and dignitaries, including the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Veronica Pickering; the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, Nick Rubins; – as well as local Civic representatives from across the county, representatives of commonwealth countries, and military personnel.

In the afternoon, HRH visited Himmah, a Social Justice Organisation, with a mission to tackle food poverty, racism and educational inequalities.

During his visit, HRH joined volunteers from Nottingham software company Ideagen, one of Himmah’s key corporate partners, in packing food parcels - a vital component of the charity’s mission to combat food insecurity. This hands-on engagement highlighted the collaborative efforts required to support Nottingham’s most vulnerable communities.

HRH also met with representatives from several local and national initiatives, including Karen Worth, Co-Chair of the Salaam Shalom Kitchen, Bilal Hussain Head of Engagement at the Runnymede Trust as well as representatives from Shifting Your Mindset, Wahda CIC and HEYA Nottingham. These organisations represent the wider network of partnerships that enable Himmah to drive meaningful social change across diverse sectors.
